Tanika Liburd of Nevis jumped a season best and first place distance of 6.44m or 21ft 1in, in her first outdoor meet of the year (wind 0.1 m/s), at the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational on Saturday, March 15. Her effort places her No. 4 in the World & No. 1 in the Caribbean (for Outdoor competition as of 15/3/08) and No. 89 in the World & No. 6 in the Caribbean (Indoors).

Her effort puts her just 20 cm or 8 inches short of the Olympic Long Jump “B” standard of 6.60m or 21ft 9ins.  The “A” standard is 6.72m or 22ft 0.5ins. In 2005, she established her Personal Best and National Record of 21ft 6ins with a best ever wind aided jump of 21ft 8.75in.

This performance follows her 2nd place position at the Bayou City Classic, Houston where she jumped 6.33m or 20-09.25 a New Personal best – Indoors.

Liburd graduated in December 2007 from the University of Southern Mississippi where she attended as a student-athlete on a full athletic scholarship commencing in January, 2004.  Four years later, she is a proud graduate/alumni with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration.
