(Charlestown, Nevis) – A 28-year-old man was gunned down by two masked men as he stepped out of a bar late Monday night in downtown Charlestown.
Two suspects in the murder are in police custody. They are being questioned, but authorities are releasing no other details.
Leon Westerman of Low Street, Nevis, died of multiple gunshot wounds after being transported to Alexandra Hospital, according to the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police. They were called to the scene just before midnight.
The shooting occurred outside Angela’s Bar on Main Street.
According to a witness, Mr. Westerman was shot as he left the establishment. Several other people were in the bar, but none of them were hurt, the witness said.
“Two masked men walked up and they just shot him,” the witness said. “There were five or six shots.”
Friends and acquaintances of Mr. Westerman described him as outgoing and friendly.
Sunshine’s Bar and Grill on Pinney’s Beach was one of the places Mr. Westerman frequented. The owner, Sunshine, talked about Mr. Westerman.
“He was a good guy. Kind of a tough appearance, but he was a good guy, very kind,” Sunshine said. “I really, really liked him. We miss him. He was a good kid. He didn’t deserve this.”
This was the first murder for the year in the Federation.
