(St. Kitts) – The bodies of Mr. Leon Willock, 20, of Dorset Village and Mr. Orlando Williams, 25, of Buckley’s Site were found partially decomposed in the Mattingley-Olivees mountain area on Tuesday, March 18. The two men were reported missing the same day at around 11:55 a.m. A subsequent search in their last known whereabouts led to the discovery of their bodies about 3 pm.
The two men were last seen on Sunday, March 16, after they unsuccessfully tried to get a third person to accompany them into the hills. Police declined to name the person who was approached by Mr. Willock and Mr. Williams to accompany them. However, police did indicate that the person was the one who also reported the young men missing, after unsuccessfully trying to reach them all day Monday by phone.
According to Inspector Cromwell Henry of the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police, Mr. Williams’ body was found in a marijuana patch and Mr. Willock’s body was found about 100 feet away, over a ghaut. Inspector Henry said police are awaiting the findings of an autopsy before they determine the circumstances of the case.
The bodies showed signs of violence, Inspector Henry said.
No one has been arrested in this case and the police are appealing to anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 465-2241 ext. 220, 230 or 236. Information received will be in strict confidence.
Meanwhile, Ms. Marcella Willock, mother of Leon Willock is left to grieve for her son. She described him as a typical youth. She said she raised him in the church, but as he got older he began to go his own way. Despite his youthful rebellion, she described him as quiet and cool, “someone who got along with everybody.”
Ms. Willock said the last time she saw her son was on Saturday. She also said that she found it strange that he did not sleep home Sunday night because it was unusual for him to sleep elsewhere. She then became worried after a co-worker of Leon asked her on Monday about Leon ’s whereabouts, since by then he had not reported to work. She, too, reported him missing.
She said it was customary for him to go into the hills, which she had warned him against. She also said she had no idea what he did in the hills and that Leon was quiet and reserved about that.
Leon worked for the Park and Beaches Unit in the Ministry of Environment and he was also a football player for Digicel Village Superstars.
