Guyana says its considering granting Trinidad and Tobago’s Caribbean Airlines national flag carrier status.
That would give the airline almost the same operating conditions as if it were indeed the national carrier of Guyana.
President Bharrat Jagdeo admits that idea could be controversial.
But he argues that it’s necessary to ensure hassle-free travel and boost visitor arrivals.
In return for getting national carrier status, Caribbean Airlines will have to guarantee regular direct flights between Georgetown and the US.
