Masked gunmen brandishing assault rifles opened fire early Thursday afternoon on a group of young men sitting under a tree in Upper Cayon. No one was injured, but a car and nearby buildings were damaged. According to the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police, authorities are investigating a shooting incident which occurred at about 12:45 pm on July 31 at Upper Cayon, in the area known as “The Circus”. Investigations reveal that three masked men dressed in dark clothing and armed with assault rifles, approached a group of young men sitting on benches under a tree and opened fire on them. The men ran for cover in a nearby shop and homes. No personal injuries were sustained, but a car which was parked in the area was damaged by the gun fire, as well as the door and a window of a nearby shop. The gunmen made their escape on foot running in the direction of Whyte’s Village. Scenes of crime officers processed the scene, and collected several pieces of evidence. No suspects were arrested.
