Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has reassured the people of St. Kitts and Nevis that he remains in “good spirits” and in stable condition as he undergoes further medical evaluations in South Florida.
Speaking Thursday afternoon from South Florida, Drew said he and his wife travelled to the United States on the advice of medical specialists in St. Kitts and Nevis and Martinique.
“At this stage there is nothing alarming to report but the doctors are continuing the investigations,” Drew said.
Dr Drew revealed that he began experiencing persistent nausea last Sunday, which progressed into episodes of vomiting. He also experienced pain on the left side of his neck, accompanied by a mild headache and dizziness.
“As the day progressed I began feeling unsteady on my feet and had difficulty with my balance and walking,” he said.
He subsequently consulted several doctors, including Dr. Jeffrey Liburd, Dr. Iren Bias, Dr. Duane Hendrickson and the Federation’s resident neurologist, Dr. Laguna, before being directed to JNF General Hospital.
There, he said, the medical team immediately evaluated him and conducted scans and other investigations.
Dr Drew said he is now taking the rest recommended by his doctors and has begun gradually returning to physical activity.
He said he took a gentle walk Thursday morning and that “it felt great getting moving once again.”
The Prime Minister described the experience as a “wake-up call”, urging citizens and residents to take their health seriously, get regular check-ups, rest adequately and pay attention to warning signs from their bodies.
Drew also expressed gratitude to the medical teams at JNF General Hospital and the specialists currently caring for him.
He specifically thanked medical professionals in Martinique, including Professor Dabor Resiere, as well as representatives of the French and United States governments and the Consulate of the Commonwealth of Dominica in Martinique for their assistance.
The Prime Minister said he remains “fully conscious and in stable condition” while the evaluations continue.
“I am recovering well.”
He thanked citizens, residents and well-wishers across the region and around the world for their prayers, messages of love and support.
Dr Drew said he will provide another update once his medical evaluations have been completed.
“My family and I are deeply grateful,” he said
