Police are investigating a series of shooting incidents that took place in the Newtown area earlier this week.
Late Sunday night police responded to a report of gunshots being fired in Douglas Street, Newtown. A resident, 33-year-old Kennedy Charles, took police to his house which he said ‘someone shot up’ while he was next door at a neighbour’s house.
Police discovered what appeared to be bullet holes in the dwelling and recovered four spent 45mm shells at the scene.
A few hours later, police were again called to Newtown after another report of gunshots being fired was called in. At about 2:00 a.m. on Monday, police arrived at the residence of Asim Adams on George Street.
Twenty-nine year-old Adams reported that while in his home with Kennedy Charles, whose home had been shot at several times a few hours before, some person(s) opened fire on his dwelling.
Though both men were unscathed in that incident, a police search turned up two spent shells and two slugs at the scene.
Later that same morning at about 7:45 a.m, a Manchester Avenue resident reported gunshots being fired upon her home. Police responded to the scene and discovered one 9mm spent shell at the scene.
According to the woman, an unknown person advanced on her son and his friend while they sat on the veranda. The two young men reportedly fled for their lives by running through the yard.
Police investigation into the matter may prove even more difficult as the young men were said to be ‘uncooperative’ with the authorities.
No arrests had been made in any of the shooting incidents but police have not ruled out the possibility that the incidents may somehow be related.
Police are still investigating a separate shooting incident which occurred last week which left a young Newtown male with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
The man claimed that while driving along Manchester Avenue, Newtown, he received a shot that came through the passenger window and lodged in his shoulder. The man claims he did not see where the bullet had come from nor who had fired the round.
