The British Virgin Islands has received its new constitution from the British government. The territory’s Chief Minister Dr Orlando Smith made the announcement yesterday. The new constitution takes effect following the next general elections. It gives the British territory some additional degree of autonomy over internal affairs but foreign policy and the authority of the Queen’s representative remain in place.
