Sometimes we hear stories from persons who claim that they had seen a loved one who had died, maybe few days after that person died. But could that really be so? The Bible really teaches that a person who has died is clearly unconscious, out of existence. Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 tell us that dead persons do NOT know anything; the dead cannot work, plan or have wisdom in the grave. Psalm 146:4 says that a dead person’s thoughts perish. Furthermore, Genesis 3:19 indicated that when Adam died, he returned to dust. Before being created, Adam was out of existence – he was Nowhere! Only after God breathed the breath of life into the dust that was shaped like a man, then Adam became a living person. Genesis 2:7. So when Adam died, he returned to dust. Thus, he went back out of existence, unconscious! Therefore, God’s Word clearly teaches that dead persons CANNOT know or do anything. So NO ONE has ever seen a dead person visit them. Rather, wicked spirits (demons) sometimes pretend to be dead persons as a way of trying to deceive us. Revelation 12:9. So if somebody really saw “someone” that bears the resemblance of a dead person, know for sure that he or she has seen a demon, and NOT the dead person. Jesus promised that in the future, dead persons will come back to life by the resurrection. John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15; Revelation 20:13. Then, we might have the opportunity to see a dead person come back alive again in a new body. But in this present world system, dead ones do NOT know and CANNOT do anything!
