Our very own, and everybody’s favorite gospel singer Carmella Lawrence is once again hitting the international stage. Something which, I might add, she knows how to take in stride, with a natural yet earthy sophistication which comes through quite clearly in her everyday life and translates into her musical ministry.
Camie, as she is fondly known, will be featured at the Barbados Gospelfest on May 28. The show is billed as One Awesome Day and will also feature other musical paragons including Agincourt Voices, Papa San, Stitchie, New Life Ambassadors, Sister Michelle, Promise and many others. More information about the show can be obtained at barbadosgospelfest.com.
Born here in Nevis into a family of ten, Carmella has been singing for most of her life. Her professional career began at the age of 18 when a musical window, opened by the well known Buck and Dottie Rambo, let her in. Since then, her fresh blend of soulful vocals, positive lyrics and gospel beats have featured with such artists as The Grace Thrillers, Lester Lewis, Jerry Lloyd, The Regenerated Singers and other Caribbean artists as well as Beau Williams, Take Six and Yolanda Adams. Carmella’s CD, “The Sound of my Voice” is an extraordinary blend of uplifting lyrics, delightful vocals, calypso, contemporary R&B / pop and reggae flavors. “The Sound of My Voice” is an enchanting journey through her heart and soul.
Carmella is the first ever winner of a Palm Award for best female gospel vocal on the island of Nevis, winner of a Palm Award for best choir director also in Nevis. She was also awarded by the Anguillan Government for participation in Gospel Explosion for the 37th anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution.
She has ministered to audiences in St. Kitts, Anguilla, Tortola, Barbados, Antigua, St. Maarten, Montserrat, Jamaica and in New York at several churches. In 2004 she was featured on the popular St. Kitts Music Festival on the same night with such greats as Take Six & Yolanda Adams.
The natural, raw talent can be described only as a unique gift from God. God called and then He equipped. Lives are transformed under the anointing of this ministry which has blossomed especially in light of the prophetic word of several of Gods chosen prophets of this time.
She says, “This ministry is infinitely bigger than what I can see with my natural eyes; but God who is rich is mercy, will transport me through every step, and every level, always granting me good success.”
We’re all rooting for you, Carmella.
