Last Friday Vernon ‘Chico’ Simon was acquitted of all charges laid against him. Simon was facing charges of housebreaking and larceny.
The prosecution alleged that Simon broke into the house of Samantha Jones and Fiona Hinds of Herbert Street, Newtown and stole groceries valued at EC$320.50 as well as EC$57 from a lady’s handbag.
Justice Francis Belle had heard the testimony of three of the prosecution’s witnesses before acquitting the man on the basis that there was not enough evidence to allow the case to go before the jury.
In other court matters; the cases involving Travis Duporte charged with murder, Carlisle Rubaine charged with shooting with intent, Glenn Pemberton charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and Denzil Williams accused of shooting with intent and unlawfully and maliciously committing damage were traversed to the May 2006 Criminal Assizes.
