Cedric R. Liburd said he was shocked when he received information of the untimely death of Satyadeow Sawh, Minister of Agriculture in Guyana.

Liburd — who is Minister of Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Consumer Affairs — expressed his profound sympathy to the people of Guyana on Sawh’s passing.

“Minister Sawh was dedicated to assisting in every way the farmers of the Caribbean region,” Liburd said. “And sincerely believed that we had enough resources in the Caribbean to ensure a successful Agricultural program.

“He was committed to settling the matter of ease of transportation and marketing of farmers’ produce throughout the entire Caribbean region.”

Liburd pointed out that Sawh attended the Caribbean Week of Agriculture, which St Kitts-Nevis hosted in October of 2005.

“He made a great impact on his colleagues and all those who came in contact with him.  Minister Sawh also co-chaired with President Jagdeo the meeting of CARICOM Ministers of Agriculture on the ‘President Jagdeo Initiative’ and hosted a memorable dinner for the Ministers and Delegates,” Liburd said.

Liburd said Sawh will be remembered as a true friend and colleague.

“ Indeed he will be greatly missed by all,” Liburd said.

Liburd did not attend the funeral, which was held on Tuesday. Instead he attended a FAO meeting in Venezuela.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Liburd said.
