The Nevis Growers Co-operative Society Limited and the Nevis Agricultural Development Co-operative Society Limited on Thursday officially launched its societies to the public under the theme, ‘Farming – Towards the Repositioning of the Nevis Economy through Proper Marketting Management’.
The event was held opposite Mansa’s One Stop in Cades Bay and featured displays from the island’s farmers. President of the Nevis Growers’ Co-operative Society Ltd Mrs. Emontine Thompson said when the organization was established back in 1991 it was geared towards meeting the needs of the newly constructed Four Seasons Resort. The group at that time consisted of nine members. Today, the group has grown to a membership of 27.
Director of Co-operatives in the Nevis Island Administration, Mr. Pearlievan Wilkin said the group was grateful for the US$5000 received from the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institution in Jamaica and used the opportunity to display the products grown from the resources given by the generous organization.
