Federation To Be Represented At CARIFESTA 2015 Jermine Abel
St. Kitts and Nevis is expected to participate in the 2015 Caribbean Festival of Arts and Culture (CARIFESTA) in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, according to Minister of Culture, Shawn Richards. CARIFESTA, the biggest arts and culture festival in the region, will be graced by representatives of both St. Kitts and Nevis in several areas, he noted. Hon. Richards told The Observer that the Federation has already registered for the 12th edition of the Festival which runs from the 21-30 August in Haiti’s capital city. “We have received several pieces of correspondence from the organizers. We have registered to send a contingent to partake in the CARIFESTA activities; and when I say we, I am not referring to St. Kitts alone, I am referring to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.” He disclosed that they are currently in discussions with the sister island on having its representatives form part of the contingent to travel and showcase the Federation’s culture on the regional stage. The minister could not say how much the endeavor would cost or how many persons would be able to attend. Those details are still in the discussion phase, he revealed. “I cannot say specifically at this point in time how many persons will be attending. It was just this morning (Monday) I had a meeting with the Director of Culture about CARIFESTA. We are looking at the different number of persons that we may possibly take and how much it is going to cost us…we are going to make a determination as to what we can and can’t afford. “We have looked at several different combinations with regards to a delegation but we are yet to come to a final decision as to who the St. Kitts-Nevis delegation will be comprised of,” Richards informed.
