(Gingerland, Nevis) ” Out the front doors and on the horizon visible from Gingerland Secondary School sits the islands of Redonda and Montserrat. On Thursday, Nov. 20, the horizons of 85 graduating students were raised a little higher when they received their diplomas. This year’s valedictorian, Earline Pemberton, gave a speech remembering teachers who were no longer at the school, and poked fun at the teachers that still were. Her stories had the standing-room-only crowd of family and well wishers laughing hard. Deputy Premier Hon. Hensley Daniel delivered some brief words of wisdom to the blue-robed ranks of young men and women. “This is your chance to prove that five years of education can do for you, what is had done for so many others,” said Minister Daniel. “My advice to you is go on to sixth form. Go on to college and then to university. Finish your education and do not have children until you are at least 22 and when you get children, get married. People who stay married, do three times as well as those who don’t.” This year’s keynote speaker, Stevenson Manners, also had words reflective of the graduation theme: Challenging Limits, Conquering New Frontiers. “Dare to dream, and dream big. Dare to work, and work hard,” he said. “You can achieve great things.”
