(St. John’s, Nevis) ” Hot meals may be headed for the St. John’s Primary School. Pledges for funding have been coming in, according to Hastings Daniel, one of the people working to raise money for kitchen equipment for the school. Collecting the money is set to start the week of Dec. 8, Mr. Daniel said. He hopes to place orders for a stove and freezer by Dec. 15. Wednesday Online Code for Issue # 735 is TPU “I think people are supporting this,” Mr. Daniel said. “We”ll have enough to buy the key elements.” The organizers hope to raise EC$65,000. About half that amount has been pledged at this time. The group wants to collect enough money to install a commercial-grade stove, refrigerator, cooler and other equipment so students can receive hot, nutritious meals during the school day. They also plan to order needed pots, pans and utensils for food preparation. In addition to designing the kitchen and selecting the right equipment, professional chefs have created menus specifically for children and volunteers have been recruited to prepare the meals. The group is inviting anyone with surplus fruit or produce to donate it to the program. A meals program at St. Thomas Primary School has met with success.
