Press Release (EMU) – St. Kitts, June 14, 2016:

Besides achieving this major milestone the graduating class of 2016 has yet another reason to rejoice, as the regional gasoline and diesel company, Delta Petroleum has made a gracious contribution to them.

During a small handing over ceremony, representatives from Delta Petroleum, Regional General Manager, Mr. Bevis Sylvester and Island Manager, Mr. Robert Liburd handed over the monetary contributions to Education Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards and Chief Education Officer, Dr. Tricia Esdaille.  The contribution totalling ECD $14,250.00 was divided amongst all public sector schools to aid in their graduation ceremony(s), from Pre-school thru Secondary schools across St. Kitts.  An undisclosed amount for the sister island Nevis, would be distributed at a later date.

Representative for Delta Petroleum, Mr. Bevis Sylvester, disclosed to the Minister that Delta Petroleum has embarked on a three (3) year regional initiative which is set to recognize students at a ‘milestone level’.  He mentioned that Delta Petroleum is willing to invest in youths and this gesture is one way of showing such.  “It is important to understand that students are the men and women of tomorrow and one of our philanthropic responsibilities is to ensure that we give back to the educational system wherever possible.”

While accepting the contribution on behalf of the Ministry of Education, The Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards expressed profound gratitude and thanks on behalf of the Ministry and graduands as well.  He noted that partnerships are vital to any economy and expressed pleasure that Delta Petroleum has gotten on board in this capacity.

“It is companies like Delta Petroleum, who recognize their corporate social responsibility that the Ministry of Education and the government continue to say ‘thanks’ to because we have always said that the public-private partnership is a very important one.  Business cannot thrive in St. Kitts and Nevis without having the support of customers, therefore I also say, thanks to the parents for supporting Delta Petroleum; it is through their support that Delta is able to give back to the Federation.”

The donations were distributed to the Principals of the various schools on Tuesday 14 June, at the monthly Principal’s meeting.
