With Jam sessions, calypso shows, Car and Bike show, Gospel concert, troupes… Green Valley Festival 2006 Reunion is expected to be bigger and better than it has been in the past nine years.

The Cayon festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the committee has highlighted a number of exciting additions to the usually jam-packed line-up.

Glenville Daniel is the person responsible for Promotions and Marketing.

“We have added events and revamped some of the old favourites this year,” he said. “For instance, we’ve brought back the exhibition of old artefacts, furniture, anything people used ‘back in the day.’ We haven’t had this Exhibition in five years.”

On Friday June 2 the annual Queen Pageant will have 7 participants — Janelle O’laughlin, Shecoma Green, Joycelyn Stapleton, Jessica Clavier, Jamella Browne, Michelle Webbe, and Janet Johnson.

Also, 14 calypsonians have registered for the Calypso Competition on Saturday, June 3. “Instead of one calypso tent as we normally do, we’ll be having three, one in Ottleys’ village, one in Keys’ Village, and one in Cayon.

“The first two will see five calypsonians eliminated,  leaving nine to do battle for the crown on the final night. Last year’s Festival Calypso Competition winner, The New Kid, will defend his crown on the night of the finals only,” said Daniel.

A food fair and Reunion Sports are slated for that day also.

“Green Valley is proud to be having an International Night featuring Anthony B,” said Vernon Benjamin, Committee Chairperson. “That will be on the evening of Sunday June 5. Our annual Car and Bike Show will be held earlier that day as well.”

Most events are family oriented, like the Talent Search, the Exhibition, the Junior Calypso Show, and the Steel Band Fest, to name a few.

On Friday June 2 there will be a Catamaran Cruise, the Queen’s Pageant, and DJ Night.

“This year, a troupe will be coming out of New York to join in the Green Valley Parade on J’ouvert, June 5,” said Daniel. “This is the first time in the Festival’s history that this has happened. We usually have around 10 troupes and we expect no less this year.”

The Cayon Green Valley Festival will launch with a Banquet and Awards Ceremony, in honour of companies, organisations and individuals who have contributed to the success of the Festival over the past nine years.

Green Valley Festival will hold activities from May 5 to June 11.
