Health Fair Treats Many

johndenny@thestkittsnevisobserver.com (Charlestown, Nevis) ” The Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Ministry of Health and United Hands Inc. sponsored a medical fair that provided free medical, dental and eye care to many patients over four days this week. United Hands is a faith based philanthropic organization counts among its many activities programs like scholarships for individuals to attend Christian schools, mentoring programs and small financial grants to those finding themselves with unexpected economic hardship. The annual health fair has become the hallmark of United Hands” outreach endeavors. A United Hands Health Fair is primarily an opportunity to screen for certain diseases; an occasion to educate and advise the community about how to prevent the onset of specific diseases, and how to be healthier by making positive lifestyle choices. At the medical fair, patients could get screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, obgyn, ultrasound and counseling. Dental care included cleaning, filling and extractions. Eye care was also available with screening for glaucoma and cataracts and free glasses were available. Alvincent Hutson from St. Kitts was the facilitator for United Hands. “We couldn’t have done this without the help of the (Permanent Secretary of Health) Joslyn Liburd,” said Mr. Hutson. “She was very instrumental in putting all this together.”
