(Charlestown, Nevis) ” After a two-day trial, Osbourne Hewitt was found guilty of incest by a jury of eleven Tuesday afternoon. He was found not guilty of the lesser charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. The case was prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecution Pauline Hendrickson and presided by Justice Ianthea Liegertwood-Octave. The former police officer was working as a security guard for the Four Seasons. Prosecution and counsel for the defense gave closing submissions in the morning and the jury deliberated for little more than two hours before returning the guilty verdict. The case was tried a year ago, but ended in a hung jury and then traversed until last Monday. The maximum penalty for incest is life in prison. Sentencing is set for Dec. 22.
