June 7 – According to published reports, more than 250 men were taken into custody and illegal firearms and ammunition seized in the early hours of yesterday morning as security forces in Jamaica continued their crackdown on gangs across the country. A total of 261 men – at least 87 of whom have already been processed and released – were held when the lawmen carried out a raid in downtown Kingston. The operation also resulted in the seizure of four guns and 140 rounds of ammunition. The crackdown came after gunmen loyal to wanted man, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, traded gunfire with security forces last month. The search for the alleged gang leader, who is wanted in the US to face drug and gun trafficking charges, is continuing.
