Independence Day 2026 will be observed on Saturday, September 19, while Friday, September 18 and Monday, September 21 will remain regular working days, according to a public notice from the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service.

The clarification is based on the Public Holidays Act, Cap. 23.23, which lists September 19 as Independence Day. The legislation provides that when a scheduled public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed instead.

As this year’s Independence Day falls on a Saturday, September 21 does not become a public holiday under the Act.

SKNIS said businesses, schools and offices are expected to operate as normal on Friday and Monday.
