Mr. and Mrs. John and Brenda Scanelli of the US have donated a bunch of school supplies to Nevis schools.
The donation of a 40-foot container full of school supplies was held at a warehouse in Long Point and was received by the Permanent Secretary for Library Services, Mr. Joseph Wiltshire.
It was all smiles as officials and teachers accepted the supplies which included computers, projectors, chairs, computer tables, reading charts for children, games and a lot more.
Principal Education Officer Mrs. Hodge also witnessed the handing over of the supplies. Among schools represented at the ceremony was Charlestown Primary School, Ivor Walters and various preparatory schools.
John and Brenda said they were more than happy to give back to the world a little out of what God has given to them.
Brenda disclosed that they started making such donations 4 years ago when a trailer of supplies was donated to a children’s home in Saint Kitts. She stated that was done in the hope that it would help the institution to function better.
She further mentioned that a community center in Saint Kitts recently benefited from their generous donation where items including were computers, tables, books and dishes were presented.
Brenda, a former teacher, said the importance of raising children in the right manner cannot be over emphasized as it is the basic foundation of any nation. She mentioned that children need to learn by hands-on and not just by instructions.
“What does it really mean teaching mathematics without any visual facility or chart?” she asked. She said charts helps children to have a nice time reading.
John indicated that children with potential but for some reason are left out will continue to benefit from their gifts.
“ Everybody has the most important job in the world, which is taking care of the children. It doesn’t matter where they are in the world, they must be giving the opportunity to be the best,” he said.
He added that teaching aids help the teachers to better able give opportunities to the children.
He commended their US-based partner, Bless The Children, for their great involvement in making the donation possible. He also thanked Tropical Shipping who helped in a similar manner.
In her Vote of thanks, Mrs. Ellen Grant expressed her profound gratitude to the couple for their donation and thanked the corporate bodies and government agencies who participated and made the whole effort a success.
