At a brief ceremony held at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters in Lime Kiln on Tuesday, Dr. Timothy Harris, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Hon. Dwyer Astaphan, Minister of National Security accepted a 23KVA electricity generator donated by the Government of the Republic of Korea.

Honourable Dr. Joon-Yung Park, Governor of the Jeollanam-Do Province in the Republic of Korea was pleased to hand over the generator which is intended to aid in providing electricity in times of disaster.

In accepting the gift, Astaphan, also minister with responsibility for disaster management, said that he was glad that the two governments could be friends and that this relationship is essential to the development of both parties.

“As a citizen, and government official, I am happy and honoured that we do have such a healthy relationship with one of the world’s most progressive nations. There is much to learn from you and you have much to learn from us and we want to ensure that each of us gives all that we can to strengthen that relationship.

“We long to have the technology that you have so we could be a shining micro state in this developing world. That is the road we would have to take in the empowerment of our people. And as I speak of empowerment; this generator will be a source of power to us in times of need. To you it may be small but to us it certainly is big and I would like to express our greatest appreciation for this gift.”
