LETTER TO THE EDITORA non-contentious courtesy call received in the spirit in which it was made DEAR EDITOR,

Re: my article in your newspaper (Sept12th) about the SSZ, I received a call from Premier Brantley, a courtesy call. He said he had read it and wanted to say that Roger Ver was not, as I had written, a participant in the project for the Southern part of Nevis. I said that I appreciated his call and that the elimination of this gentleman made no difference to my article’s message, namely that there is much general anxiety and people want to understand what is going on.

It was not my place on a courtesy call to ask for further elucidation of the project, but I did ask if the NIA had signed up and was already committed. He said nothing had been signed, and that he would be holding a series of Town Halls to inform everyone, and, at the end of the day, it would be up to the people to decide if they wanted it or not. I said I was relieved to hear of this.

As a writer I hope that the NIA will immediately/shortly produce a position paper so that people will be able to play their democratic part at the Town Halls, which is best done when they are in possession of good accurate information.

I do not have exact recall of his words or mine. I hope the above is also his recollection. I think it appropriate to ask the same newspaper to print this letter giving Premier Brantley’s comment/criticism. I think he might expect this. If I have got anything wrong, he has only to say so. He has several public channels.

This was a non-contentious courtesy call received in the spirit in which it was made.
