LOUD MUSIC REALLY IS AN EARSORE

Heeding to his cry and supporting Mr.Amba Trott in his fight against the noise pollution that has been plaguing residents of this island, is quite spontaneous for me as I’m often affected by the constant booming of boxes, for seemingly endless hours.  It has gotten to the point that one sometimes feels it is useless to complain, but thanks to Mr. Trott, his persistency seem to be getting the necessary attention.

It is understandable to see the logic behind the disc jockey’s notion that we on the island have always been bombarded by loud music and he sees nothing wrong with it. However, what about the hundreds or thousands that do not appreciate the constant loud pounding of monotonous noises while they are reading, trying to concentrate are trying to fall asleep at midnight.

These individuals apparently have no choice but to contend with it until the DJ decides to pack up and leave.  I believe we have to start thinking of others and their right of choice, rather than subjecting them to something that is clearly disturbing and aggravating.

I believe Mr. Trott has brought every possible negative to the fore on this issue. I, however, think it’s a burning shame when there is an activity involving primary and pre-school children they are exposed to some of the music and lyrics that I’ve witnessed.  Such a setting should truly be geared towards those children with some acceptable moderation, rather than the DJ trying to satisfy himself.

It is also interesting that just about a week ago while in the Virgin Islands, the same topic was addressed and attempts are being seriously made to stamp out noise pollution.

Apart from the disturbances, unappreciated music and foul language blasting to the ears, research indicates hearing loss, brain damage and other health problem associated with the practice.  These are some things we need to be aware of because innocent children and the elderly are mostly affected by such loud music.

Another practice, apart from the DJs and other stationary settings that is equally as disturbing, are the vehicles that carry such equipment. The drivers of these vehicles sometimes arrive, park up and leave the music blasting to drown out whatever conversation or program one may be enjoying.  That in a sense is totally disrespectful and very annoying.

Much more can be said on the matter, but as Amba suggested in a recent article, this repeated topic is probably boring some readers.  I am fully supportive of stamping out this loud and excessive music that negatively affect individuals who care not for such.

It is hoped that the authorities responsible for making a difference in regards to solving that problem, stand up and do what is necessary.  Let us also hope that whatever laws are presently in effect to deal with that matter be enforced strongly and any amendment deemed necessary to enhance those laws to the benefit of the general public, be adopted and implemented.
