Man Slain Near Nevis Airport

(Newcastle, Nevis) ” One man is in custody for the murder of a man found hacked to death early Thursday, Oct. 30, in a parking lot near the Vance Amory Airport. According to a release from the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police Force, officers responded to a call reporting a body lying next to Shaw’s Road in Newcastle at 5:30 a.m. Alejandro Nisbette, 58, originally of the Dominican Republic was killed, according to police. Mr. Nisbette was slain with a “machete” or a “cutlass,” according to witnesses. Members of the Dominican community have stated that Sandy Nisbette, nephew to the victim, has been arrested for the crime and is in custody. No member of the police force was available to confirm the reports of the members of the Dominican community. No clear motive has been established in the murder, but unconfirmed reports indicate the suspect has mental health issues. The Dominican Republic Association of Nevis is asking for donations to send the victims body home. “The man has eight children and a wife,” said Dominican Republic Association President Walcott James. “We need to raise money to send his body back to Santo Domingo.” This is the 18th murder of 2008 in the Federation. In all of 2007, there were 16 murders in the Federation.
