In what can be termed an act of domestic violence, a man said to be in his 40s had stabbed his girlfriend to death early Wednesday morning (Jul. 13) in the home they shared at Station Street in Old Road.

Speaking with newly-promoted Superintendent Travis Rogers who has been appointed Acting Commander of District ‘B’, The Observer was told that shortly before 9:00 a.m. officers received information about a murder that took place just a few metres opposite the Old Road Police Station.

“Initial investigations revealed that the alleged perpetrator went to the police station and reported that he had killed his girlfriend,” Rogers said.

He stated that the victim was identified as Samantha Peniston, who is said to be 28 years old, and the alleged perpetrator as Cleveland Lee, who is said to be in his 40s.

This media house understands that both of them are nationals of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and that the mother of two was killed at about 6:15 a.m.

It was rumoured that after realising his girlfriend was dead, Lee attempted to commit suicide, but this act could not be confirmed by Superintendent Rogers who informed that the man had sustained an injury and was taken to the JNF General Hospital.

The Observer however learned that the injury was in the region of his neck.

According to Rogers, investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Samantha Peniston’s death has taken to 17 the number of homicides committed in St. Kitts and Nevis for the year.
