Virgil Browne the current Massage Therapist on the West Indies Cricket team is investing in his future. The former Nevis and Leeward Islands left arm leg spinner flies out for Australia on Wednesday with the remainder of the West Indies team line up for a one day series there. He is confident that despite missing some key players for this tour like Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul through injury, that the West Indies team will give a good account of itself. However, even as he lands in Australia, his mind would be focused on Nevis for an additional reason: Browne has left instructions for the grand opening of a major investment which he fondly refers to as XPETROL. This is a significant business endeavour, which is located at the front of his residence at Camps Village in Nevis. The business will feature a Petrol Station with two pumps, which will be opened twenty four hours per day – the first of its kind in Nevis – and a convenience store. A little later in the year, Browne is anticipating the additional feature of a Deli. When asked about the name XPETROL, Browne indicated that his business will not only provide petrol and more but that service will be XPRESS-guaranteeing that customers would receive speedy and efficient service. Browne who indicated that he had been planning and preparing for this investment for the last seven years, was high in praise for three major contributors: The Bank of Nevis who unlike other unnamed institutions assisted him financially as the others just could not see the vision; Digicel-the bigger, better network for their significant contribution and especially Marketing Manager, Sharez Laws who was very instrumental in making the Assistance a reality and the Nevis Island Government who also saw the vision and assisted greatly. Browne also had some advice for upcoming young entrepreneurs: “Plan and plan very well. Whatever you dream, go after it. It may not happen in five years or ten-but it may happen in fifteen”. Browne expects this major investment to ‘last for generations’ and also indicated that it was also done in honour of his Father, a former dynamic Headmaster who always wanted to give back something to the community. His father Franklyn Browne is still alive and also resides at the family home at Camps village. XPETROL is expected to be opened By Thursday or Friday of this week. The general public would be advised accordingly.
