Miami Hospital To Host Neuroscience Symposium

Mar. 17 – In support of efforts to develop stronger relationships with international physicians, medical associations and hospitals, Baptist Health International Center of Miami (BHICM) will host the first-ever International Neuroscience Symposium, March 19-20, at Baptist Hospital of Miami and the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla. “We are honored that more than 30 international physicians in the fields of neuroscience, orthopedics, surgery and internal medicine from Latin America and the Caribbean will be joining us for this groundbreaking event,” said Dr. Antonio Briceno, assistant vice president and chief medical officer at BHICM. “We look forward to having our Baptist Health physicians and our international guests share their knowledge and expertise on a wide range of topics as well as presenting live cases and participating in panel discussions.” Topics to be presented include: advances in neurocritical care and minimally invasive spine surgery; advances in brain endoscopic surgery; updates in stroke management; radio surgery for spinal tumors and minimally invasive treatments of spinal fractures, among others. Directing the event is Sergio Gonzalez-Arias, M.D., chief of neurological surgery and medical director of Baptist Hospital ‘s Neuroscience Center . Dr. Gonzalez-Arias, along with other Baptist Health physicians, will discuss a wide range of neuroscience topics that include: “Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery: The Facts and Fiction” with Dr. Gonzalez-Arias; “Update in Diagnostic Neuroradiology” with Dr. Kevin Abrams; “Stroke Program at Baptist Hospital” with Dr. Paul Damski; “Back Pain: From the Basics to Rocket Science and Back” with Dr. Edward C. Benzel, among other topics. “We want to be the institution that the international community looks to when a patient requires tertiary medical assistance,” said Allen Brenteson, corporate vice president of Baptist Health International. “Collaborating with Latin American and Caribbean physicians during events like this symposium helps us better understand the needs patients are facing in these regions. We anticipate a successful event where talented international physicians will have the opportunity to learn about the newest developments in neuroscience.” International physicians attending the neuroscience symposium are arriving from Latin American countries such as Guatemala , Colombia , Mexico , Costa Rica , El Salvador , Peru , Honduras and Nicaragua as well as Trinidad, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the Bahamas in the Caribbean region.
