Three young men have been charged with the execution-style slaying of Sheldon “Sword”Cannonier and more could be facing the same murder charge. Sylvester Crossley and Vance Thomas, of Fort Thomas Road, McKnight, and Shane Amory of New Road Housing Project were formally arrested and charged with Cannonier’s June 2 murder. Cannonier, of Neverson Street, Newtown was shot to death as he left a church service that Sunday morning. It was said that two masked gunmen approached Cannonier as he was walking up the road from the Rivers of Living Water church and fired several shots. Cannonier died on the spot, a number of gunshot wounds to his head. An autopsy confirmed that he died from gunshot wounds to his head. The Observer understands however, that the arrests may not be over in this matter. One of the charged men was an accomplice to the crime and it was revealed that others were involved in planning and carrying out the crime. A police source explained that even though they did not pull the trigger, they were complicit in the murder if they drove the gunmen to or from the scene in order to kill Cannonier. “They helped carry out the crime even though they did not do the actual shooting and so they won’t be charged as accessories to the crime; they will be charged with murder as well,”he explained. Thomas, 21, and Crossley were last November freed of murder charges in the February 2012 shooting death of Miguel ‘Bashment’ Robinson of Lime Kiln . In June 2011 Thomas was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding (shooting) his own brother, 27-year-old David ‘Dibaloo’ Thomas. Amory was in October 2012, charged with two counts of robbery, inflicting grievous bodily harm and burglary after he and two others robbed a man in his home in Nevis at gunpoint. The 31-year-old Cannonier was laid to rest on Wednesday (June 12).
