Parliamentary Representative for Constituency No. 3 Konris Maynard is again criticizing the government for an alleged lack of vision and implementation of policy initiatives.

He made his critical remarks in an interview with The Observer, claiming that while in opposition the government failed to develop policy initiatives they wanted to implement if they won the election. That was their mission and rallying cry rather than just planning to oust then Prime Minister and now opposition leader Dr. Denzil Douglas, he said.

Rep. Maynard noted that the Coalition never took the time to fully understand how government functions. As an example, he pointed out that the Coalition had a misconception of how the Labour Administration carried out its policies in construction of low income homes and criticized the administration for policies that went into affect in the housing sector.

Continuing his attack, Mr. Maynard said, “They thought that everything was being run wild. And that is why sometimes they say experience teaches true wisdom. On the things that government did to their policy of victimization was to cleanse the systems of those people who understand how the system works.”

The first-time Parliamentarian criticized the government’s position of sending home key people who would have important information that could have been shared in the transition from the Labour Government to Team Unity Administration.  He claimed that amounted to wanton victimization by a government that in the past criticized labour.

“That is a major difference that the population ought to see between this government and when the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party took power in 1995,” he added. “They did not immediately remove everybody from every important position when they got into office. it was important for us to have that institutional memory transferred to persons and allow people the breathing space to move as they please.

“We give the example of the Prime Minister’s secretary for our fourth national hero, Sir kennedy Simmons. She was left in the new Prime Minister’s office until she was ready to leave. Who could have more sensitive information than her?  The government did not do that.”

When the new government took office, they never bothered to learn from any person who would have left and that caused them to mess up on Carifta Games, Carnival, the independence celebration and the Centopath remembrance, Maynard charged. He said the country is now sounding their displeasure at government incompetence to handle its business.
The country is currently at a standstill, said Maynard, and is deceiving the people into believing it is at the position it was just over a year ago.
