NEVIS CHAMBER ELECTS NEW MEMBERS By Nigel Jameson At its annual meeting last month the St Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce elected six new members. They are Mark Theron of CCCL Systems, chairman; Ken Evelyn of Superfoods Supermarket, vice chairman; Tressetta Prentice of SNIC, treasurer; Sydney Newton of NCCU; Ernie France of TDC and Carl Claxton of Reliable Motors. The new council held its first meeting as a body last week Thursday (12th) at the chamber offices in Rams building. At this meeting the council discussed some seriously relevant issues relating to the federation at this juncture. These included the economy and its effect on the people and businesses of Nevis; the current wave of criminal activities rampant in the federation and what may be the most important of all – the closure of the Four Seasons Resort Nevis which resulted in the layoff of over 600 staff – and the resultant negative trickle down effect this is having and will continue to have on the Nevis economy. The council is appealing to those staff to be prudent with the management of their funds since it may be a while before they may be earning an income again. They are urging all inactive members to join the new council members as they “work to invigorate the CIC Nevis Div. and work to improve the standard of living for all on Nevis through these trying economic times.”
