(St. Johns, Nevis) – The dedication ceremony for the St. Johns Primary School was held Friday, Jan. 14, at its new location in Cole Hill, St. Johns.
The school has been under construction since November, 2005. It was funded by the Caribbean Development bank.
At press time, the cost of the school was not available.
The students began attending classes at the new facility on Monday, Jan. 14. The school has an enrollment of 98 students and 13 teachers.
“This school offers a lot more things that the old school didn’t, namely playground, their own computer lab, staff room and also kitchen,” Permanent Secretary of Education, Mr. Joseph Wiltshire said.
Mr. Wiltshire also said that “the school has more space’ both in the classrooms and in the yard. At the old school, the students didn’t have sufficient space to run about. They always had to be constantly worrying about the traffic, but now that is not a problem anymore, he said.
“The new kitchen will be put to use to start a school meals program at the school,” Mr. Wiltshire said.
“The new change shows that the government is serious about education, we are showing that we care and we care about the well-being of the children,” Mr. Wiltshire said.
