(Basseterre, St. Kitts) – Police officials are waiting for the results of scientific tests on human remains that could determine cause of death and an identity. The remains were discovered late last month in Willete’s Ghaut.

Police do not know when the results will be available.

According to a release from the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis police, on Feb. 27, a resident of Palmetto Point reported to the Old Road Police that while he was tending to his goats, he discovered what appeared to be human remains. Police immediately responded, but were unable to reach the site because of the terrain and poor lighting in the area.

The following morning, a search party comprising of the District B Crime Response Unit and officers from the Old Road Police Station along with the district medical doctor, set out to investigate the report. The remains were found and the doctor confirmed that they were human remains, but was unable to establish identity.

The remains were removed and kept for further forensic examination to establish identity and possible cause of death.
