Information reaching The Observer has it that a police officer has been taken into police custody for stealing from a suspect.

According to a well-placed source, police and defense force soldiers were conducting a joint operation in the Phillips’ area and were in the process of taking a suspect into custody at his home.

The man indicted that there was a sum of money on his bed and he wished to secure it before leaving the premises. Upon entering the room where the money had been seen strewn on a bed, the man declared that his money was missing.

When a search of all the officers and soldiers present was conducted, the missing money was found on the officer’s person.

Rumour has it that the Constable has been placed under station arrest at the Basseterre Police Station and has not officially been charged with a crime.

The Observer spoke to Assistant Commissioner Austin Williams who said he had no details on the matter.

Another credible source within the force confirmed that a police officer had been charged with breach of discipline. If the charges are found to be truthful, the source said the officer could be confined to barracks for a maximum of 14 days, fined, or dismissed from the force.
