Says CCM took undeserved credit for projectsBy Monique Washington

After months of silence, former Premier Hon. Joseph Parry has taken Minister of Tourism Hon. Mark Brantley to task for comments he made recently on Facebook about developments and activities taking place in Nevis. Hon. Brantley attributed recent developments and activities taking place on Nevis to the Concerned Citizens’ Movement (CCM), while Hon. Parry said he envisioned the projects before the last election.

On Thursday the Press Secretary for the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), stated via social media that the former Premier Hon. Joseph Parry addressed a comment Hon. Mark Brantley made.

Hon. Brantley commenting on Facebook about developments and activities currently taking place in Nevis said:

“Today I took a drive around the island,” Hon. Brantley said on Facebook.“Candy Resort is progressing nicely.Hanley’s Road is nearing completion. The massive water project is making its way through Rawlins and Golden Rock. The Booby Island Regatta and the Hanley’s Road fishing tournament are in full swing. The drag strip has been extended to now make it a full quarter mile track. Work is ongoing at the Bath Stream including the erection of toilet facilities for users. Junctions are being beautified. The Artisan Village is being transformed.”

Hon. Parry, addressing Minister Brantley’s statement said:

“Every project that Mr. Brantley mentioned in that Facebook post including the Artisian Village, the development at the Bath stream, the road project at Hanley’s Road, the water project and the St. James drag strip were all started and in most cases completed by the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) led Administration. The Hanley’s Road development under CCM according to Hon. Parry is a failure of a project that has gone over budget and over the completion time.”

Hon.Parry added,“Brantley would list an extension of the drag race strip as an achievement, because when Brantley was in Opposition he complained that the drag strip was a waste of the island’s money and threatened that when the CCM got into government they would close down the drag strip.”

When the Observer contacted Parry on Thursday, he lashed out on Hon.Brantley’s remark. The CCM has “never had a plan for the people of Nevis,” Hon. Parry said.  He said that most of the CCM projects were initiated by his party and the CCM leader has failed to say what plans he has for economic growth.  Hon. Parry said that in 2011 he told the people about his party’s stimulus package.

“We had a stimulus package, we did not want to borrow any money we were going to create jobs that will create money,” Hon. Parry said. “We would be making our own money, Mr.Amory and his party never had a plan for the people. CCM has never come with an alternative package, to ours, all we heard from Mr. Amory was put us in and you will see what will do.”

Hon Parry said that he and his party are watching to see what the CCM party has to reveal for Nevis, but for now he will “let the people of Nevis weigh their government.”
