POLICE DESTROY MARIJUANA PLANTS (Basseterre, St. Kitts) – The 9,150 marijuana plants that were uprooted by Police on Thursday 24th July 2008 in the Ottley’s and Cayon area were destroyed by fire at Tabernacle. The police will continue in their drive to rid the Federation of such illegal drugs and fire arms. ROBBERY Police in Sandy Point are investigating a robbery which occurred at about 1:20 pm on 25th July 2008 in Sandy Point. Investigations have revealed that an employee of Sunrise Bakery was about to enter the National Bank’s Sandy Point Branch, when two armed masked men robbed her of the deposit bag she was carrying. The men escaped with the bag which contained a sum of money. No one was injured. Two suspects are in custody assisting with the investigations. The Police make its usual appeal to persons who may have witnessed this crime, or have any information, to contact the Sandy Point Police Station at telephone number 465-6261. Information given will be held in strict confidence. Wednesday Online Code for Issue # 718 is BRU MARIJUANA PLANTS UPROOTED The District “B” Crime Response Unit continues its search and eradication program in the cane fields around the island. On Saturday 26th July 2008, members of the unit uprooted and destroyed one thousand and fifteen (1,015) marijuana plants ranging in height from one foot to 10 feet. The plants were found in two separate lots in the cane fields at Ottley’s Project, and were destroyed by fire at Conaree, along with plants that were uprooted in a previous operation. A total of 9,000 plants were burnt. POLICE ARRESTED SIXTEEN OVER WEEKEND The Police continue its drive in the fight against crime and antisocial behavior in the Federation. Over the period 25th to 27th July 2008, fifteen (15) persons were arrested and charged with offences ranging from battery to wounding with intent. Tandra Fyfield of Buckley’s Estate was on Friday 25th July 2008, arrested and charged for the offence of battery, an offence that was committed on 23rd July 2008. Darren Joseph and Dion Weekes of Old Road were both arrested and charged on Friday 25th July 2008 with the offence of possession of cannabis. The offence was committed on 23rd July 2008. Jason Williams of Upper Market Street was arrested and charged on Friday 25th July 2008 with the offence of larceny, an offence that was committed on 11th July 2008. Chavern Scott of Stapleton Village was arrested and charged on Friday 25th July 2008 with the offence of battery. Edgar Pemberton of Crab Hill, Sandy Point, was arrested and charged on Friday 25th July 2008 with the offences of possession of cannabis and obstruction. Chesley Dasent also of Crab Hill, Sandy Point, was arrested and charged for the offence of possession of cannabis. Alexander Mitrell of Durant Avenue was arrested and charged on Saturday 26th July 2008 with the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol. Elizabeth De Freites of Prickley Pear Alley was arrested and charged on Saturday 26th July 2008 with the offences of driving without insurance, driving without a license and for driving under the influence. Bird Rock resident Komal Boyal was arrested and charged on Saturday 26th 2008 with the offences of driving without insurance and for driving without a valid or unexpired license. Neil James of Crab Hill, Sandy Point, was arrested and charged on Saturday 26th July 2008 with the offences of possession of cannabis and obstruction. Emar Martinez of Mango Terrace, Molyneaux, was on Saturday 26th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of wounding. Ketron Springette of Government Road, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Saturday 26th July 2008 with the offence of wounding with intent, an offence that was committed on 11th July 2008. Anthony Stapleton alias “Tony” of Ponds Extension was on Sunday 27th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of unlawful carnal knowledge, an offence that was committed on 24th June 2008. Shervin Williams of St. Pauls Village was arrested and charged on Sunday 27th July 2008 with the offence of larceny, an offence that was committed on 25th July 2008. Craddock road resident Anthony Hendricks was arrested and charged on Sunday 27th July 2008 with the offence of found in an enclosed premises. CONVICTIONS Urban Penny of Upper Thibou Avenue, who was charged with the offences of obstruction and carrying abroad an offensive weapon, appeared before the District “A” Magistrate Court on Thursday 24th July 2008. He was convicted and cautioned for the offence of carrying abroad an offensive weapon and was acquitted on the other charge. The offences were committed on 22nd and 25th June 2008 respectively. Rudel Isaac of Conaree Village also appeared before the said court and was convicted for the offences of battery and larceny, and sentenced to three months in prison for beating Suzan Smith of Stapleton Village and was also ordered to pay compensation of $299.00 to Smith for stealing her cell phone. The offences were committed on 25th January 2008. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER SENTENCED TO PRISON At a sitting of the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 28th July 2008, the District “A” Magistrate convicted Mary Huggins and her daughter Akeela Huggins 19 yrs, of Cunningham Estate for battery. The offence was committed on October 29th 2007, when the two beat Petrona Thomas of Middle Island at KFC, after they claimed that she went ahead of them in the waiting line. They were both sentenced to prison for one month. SUPT. QUEELEY SECONDED TO RSS Supt. Ian Queeley, Divisional Commander for St.Christopher “A” of the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force has been seconded to the Regional Security System Headquarters in Barbados, where he will serve as Director of law enforcement and intelligence for a period of two (2) years. Supt. Queeley is replaced as Divisional Commander by Supt. Robert Liburd. The High Command of the Police Force extends best wishes to Supt. Queeley. SHOOTING At about 9:30 pm on 30th July 2008, Police responded to a shooting at Trafalgar Village at the Western Hero Bar. Investigations reveal that Raphael Garnette of Challengers, and a group of men were at the said bar when two armed masked men entered and demanded that they handed over everything. Garnette struck one of the masked men with a bottle. The man opened fire, shooting Garnette in the arm. He was taken to the JNF Hospital where he was treated and detained there. Investigations are ongoing. ROBBERY Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Wednesday 30th July 2008 at West Bourne Ghaut at about 10:45 p.m. Investigations reveal that a young lady was held at gun point from behind by a male person who demanded that she hand over her belongings. The gun man, who also threatened the young lady’s life if she made any noise, then made his escape with her cell phone and keys. She was not injured. Investigations are ongoing. ARREST Ramal Persaud of Clay Ghaut was on Wednesday 30th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offences of driving when not covered by insurance and for driving without the appropriate license. CONVICTION Kevin Warner of McKnight who was charged with the offence of making use of insulting language, appeared before the District “A” Magistrate Court on Wednesday 30th July 2008 and was convicted for making use of insulting Charles Jong on 15th July 2008. He placed on a bond for a six months. In addition, Warner was ordered to stay at least 200 feet away from Mr. Jong and his premises, in default, he will be brought before the court for sentencing. OPERATION Police continued their routine stop and search operations on Wednesday 30th July 2008 in the West Farm area where over 90 vehicles were stopped, and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition.
