COURT CONVICTIONS

On Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 the following persons were convicted for various offences at the Magistrate’s Court in Basseterre:

Neilcher Williams of Malone Avenue, who was charged with the offences of disorderly conduct by fighting and armed with an offensive weapon committed on Nov. 27, 2007, was convicted and fined $750 ECC to be paid in one week or serve one month in prison for the offence of disorderly conduct by fighting, and for the offence of being armed with an offensive weapon, she was convicted and discharged.

Jovil Williams also of Malone Avenue, who was charged with the offence of Disorderly conduct by fighting committed on Nov. 27, 2007, was convicted and fined $750ECC to be paid in one week or serve one month in prison.

Glen Christmas of Herbert Street, Newtown, was charged for the offence of simple larceny committed on Jan. 25, 2008. He was convicted and ordered to pay $150ECC in compensation to the complainant in one week or serve one month in prison. Christmas was also fined $500ECC to be paid in one week or serve one month in prison.

Paul Charles of Lebertha, Antigua, who was charged with the offences of Battery and Indecent Language committed on Feb. 1, 2008 at the RLB International Airport, was convicted and fined $750 ECC forthwith or serve one month in prison for the offence of battery, and for the offence ofiIndecent language, he was reprimanded and discharged.

Dennis James of Franklands, Old Road, was charged with offence of Unlawful possession of a Home Entertainment System, committed on Nov. 20,2007. He was convicted and fined one $1000.00 ECC to be paid in three months or serve two months in prison.

ARRESTS

Vinceroy Chumney of Newtown was arrested and charged on Feb. 4 for the offence Robbery.

Gavin Jeffers of Brick Kiln, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Feb. 4 for the offence of Trespassing, committed on Feb. 2, 2008.

On Feb. 1, police arrested and charged a 13-year-old juvenile from St. Pauls Village for the offence of House Breaking and Larceny committed on Jan. 25, 2008.

Paul Charles of Antigua was arrested and charged on Feb. 1 for the offence of Battery and Indecent Language committed the same day at the RLB International Airport.

Ellerson Thomas of Ottleys Village was arrested and charged on Feb. 1 for the offence of Obstruction under the Drug Act.

Leo Herbert of Cotton Ground, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Jan. 23 for the offence of Larceny committed the same day.

Franklyn Tyson of Ponds Extension and George Dickenson of St. Pauls Village were both arrested on Feb. 3 for the offence of Attempting to Evade Customs by the police. As a result of the arrest, both men were handed over to a customs official who subsequently fined both men $3000.00 each for failing to declare two Pit Bull Dogs that were on their boat.

Allister Browne of La Guerite was arrested and charged on Feb. 3, 2008 for the offence of Battery committed on 2nd February 2008.

All persons will appear in court shortly.

INVESTIGATION

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008 in the vicinity of Lower Shear Lane, Basseterre. The victim, 25-year-old Calvin Delpleche of Central Street claim that he was walking along Central Street about 9:45 p.m when something struck him in the right leg. He was able to get to the JNF Hospital where the injury was identified as a gunshot wound. Delpleche was detained at the hospital for medical attention. Investigation is ongoing.

DRUGS FOUND

On Feb. 3, police uprooted a total of 18 marijuana plants found on an empty plot of land at New Guinea. The plants, which ranged in height from seedlings to one foot, were taken into police custody. Investigations are continuing.

Police uprooted a total of 164 marijuana plants in the Tabernacle area on February 3. The plants ranged in height from seedlings to two feet and were taken into police custody pending further investigations.

Police in Nevis conducted operations in the Pump Road area and uprooted a total of  250 marijuana seedlings from a metal drum on an abandon plot of land. The plants were taken into police custody and investigations are ongoing.

COURT CONVICTIONS

On Tuesday 5th February 2008 the following persons were convicted for various offences at the Magistrate’s Court in Basseterre, Sandy Point and Nevis, respectively.

Lennox Gumbs of St. Johnson Village who was charged with the offence of Possession of Cannabis was convicted and ordered to pay $800.00 ECC forthwith or serve one month in prison. The offence was committed on 10th December 2007.

Michael Noll of New Hampshire, U.S.A, was convicted and fined $1,500.00 ECC forthwith or serve one month in prison for the offence of Possession of Cannabis. The offence was committed on 31st January 2008.

Lee Daniel of Molyneaux who was charged with the offences of Armed with offensive weapon and Throwing missiles was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.

Larry Scarborough of Mansion was charged with the offences of Driving without insurance and Driving without a valid driver’s license. He was convicted for both offences and fined $1000.00 ECC to be paid in three months or serve one month in prison for the offence of Driving without insurance and $500.00 ECC to be paid in one month or serve one month in prison for the offence of Driving without a valid driver’s license.

Ervin Greene of Main Street, Old Road, who was charged for the offences of Driving without insurance, Driving without due care and attention and Driving without a valid driver’s license, was convicted and fined $1,500.00 ECC to be paid in two months or serve three months in prison for the offence of Driving without insurance. He was warned for the offence of Driving without due and care and attention and fined $500.00 ECC to be paid in one month or serve one month in prison for the offence of Driving without a valid driver’s license.

Naithan Shipley of Camps Village, Nevis, who was charged for the offences of Careless driving, Driving without a valid driver’s license and Driving without insurance committed on 25th January 2008. He was convicted and fined $500.00 to be paid in one month or serve one month in prison for the offence of Driving without a valid driver’s license. For the offence of Driving without insurance, he was convicted and ordered to pay $500.00 in one month or serve one month in prison and convicted and cautioned for the offence of Careless driving.

Akean Claxton of Bath Village, Nevis, was convicted and fined $800.00 ECC to be paid in two months or serve one month in prison for the offence of Possession of Cannabis committed on 29th January 2008.

Leo Herbert of Cotton Ground Village, Nevis, was convicted and sentenced to two separate terms of three years in prison for two (2) counts of Larceny committed on Thursday 10th January 2008 and Wednesday 23rd January 2008 respectively. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Bernard Berharet Clark of Clifton Estate, Nevis, who was charged with the offence of Careless driving, was convicted and fined $500.00 ECC to be paid in three months or serve one month in prison, he was also disqualified from driving for 24 hours.

Garvin Jeffers of Brickiln, Nevis, was convicted and fined $500.00 ECC to be paid in one month or serve three months in prison for the offence of Trespassing committed on 2nd February 2008.

ARRESTS

Terrence “JT” Ritchen of Carty Alley, Newtown, was arrested and charged on Tuesday 5th February 2008 for the offence of Robbery committed on 31st January 2008 at Carty Alley.
