Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force showcased drill techniques in the Commissioner’s Parade and Route March through the streets of Charlestown. The march began at approximately 4pm on Tuesday (June 17) at the Charlestown Police Station, winding its way through downtown Charlestown, and into in the Elquemedo Willet Park. There, Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Liburd inspected the officers. The march then proceeded along the main road to Samuel Hunkins Drive and upon reaching the Memorial Square, the officers saluted, Deputy Commissioner Stafford Liburd and other commanding officers before heading back to the police station. According to Dep. Commissioner Liburd, the march serves to achieve several goals. “Our reason for this type of event is to bring an awareness of our presence in the community where the public can appreciate and see the police. Beyond that, it serves as an opportunity for the officers to improve their drills [because] drills are a foundation for discipline and we must ensure that officers maintain discipline.”Dep. Commissioner Liburd said that there will be more frequent Parade and Route marches. “I really want to stress our community effort in this so the community can recognize us,”he said. The route march is the second for the month in the Federation. The first was held last Wednesday (June 11) in Basseterre.
