Police investigating Newtown shooting

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in Newtown in which a young man was shot and injured.

Police received the report at about 9 p.m. on Dec. 9 and responded immediately. Upon arrival they met Emergency Medical Service Technicians attending to 33-year-old Kevis Riley of Lower Carty Alley.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Riley was walking along Shephard Street, Newtown. He was approached from behind by two armed, unknown assailants who opened fire on him. He was shot several times. Riley was transported to the JNF Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition.

Members from the Crime Scene Unit visited and processed the scene. Items of evidential value were taken into Police custody.

The Police are appealing to anyone who might have any information in relation to this incident to call the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) at 467-1887, 467-1888, or 662-3468 or their nearest Police Station. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
