DHARAMSALA, India, May 16, CMC – Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee by the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) code of conduct.
Pollard was found guilty of using “audible obscenity” towards match officials and handed one demerit point for his behaviour during a match between MI and Punjab Kings on Wednesday.
The breach took place in the 19th over of the second innings with Mumbai Indians chasing a daunting 201-run target. Pollard reportedly directed abusive language towards the fourth umpire, prompting immediate action from match officials.
According to an official statement released by the IPL, Pollard’s actions were deemed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the league’s Code of Conduct, which relates to the use of inappropriate or abusive language during a match.
The statement confirmed that Pollard admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Pankaj Dharmani.
Level 1 offences in the IPL typically involve minor breaches, but repeated violations can lead to stricter penalties, including suspension.
