First women’s President Cup on as well

Four of the Federation’s top football teams will clash for the coveted President’s Cup Trophy at Warner Park Sunday, Sept. 3 in the 2016/2017 National Bank-sponsored Premier League.
General Secretary of the St Kitts-Nevis Football Assn. Stanley Jacobs said the new season will include the women’s league. For the first time, the tournament will see the staging of a women’s tournament between the top two teams on points standings from last season’s competition.
Mr. Jacobs said, “The tournament will feature Sol Island Auto Conaree taking on the champion team from last season Winners Circle Newton Women.”
In the men’s tournament, last season’s FA Cup winners Garden Hotspurs will take on League Champions Flow 4G Cayon Rockets. Jacobs said the competition is expected to be exciting.
“We are extremely happy to have the much anticipated start of the new season,” he told The Observer. “People have been waiting for a very long time for it and football is finally here.”
When play starts on Sept. 10, several new rules changes will go into effect because of a mandate passed down by the FIFA, world governing body for the sport. Nine new rules went into effect earlier this year for all participating leagues, national competitions and international games.
According to a SKYsports report published earlier this year, the rules became lawJune 1 for several international events and friendly matches. One rule is yellow card, not red, if a player commits denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity inside the area. Referees can show red cards to players before kick-off. Jacobs said, “The rules will be instituted because they were passed by the FIFA. and must be implemented.
“Our refereeing committee has been going over the rules and has met with the clubs to go over them as well.”
