Quick action by the Nevis Fire Brigade averted a potential disaster at Delta Petroleum’s bulk station on Thursday evening (September 27). The fire department responded to a call at about 5:30 p.m. that there was a fire at the bulk station located at Low Ground.
The fire engine from the main fire station in Charlestown responded and attempted to extinguish the blaze. The engine from the airport was summoned and together the two trucks and the team of fire officers worked diligently for an hour and a half to put out the blaze. The fire was concentrated around an empty tank that was cleaned earlier in the day. Two larger tanks with fuel escaped the blaze. Up to press time the origin of the fire was not known.
