ROTARY CLUBS TO HOLD POLIO PLUS WEEKEND Following a concerted effort by all the Rotary clubs in the Federation a fascinating schedule of events has been arranged for the Polio Plus weekend on March 20-22. On Friday 20 March, 2009 after a Golf tournament at the Royal St Kitts Golf Club where both local and overseas players are expected to participate there will be a Battling Pirates Sunset Cruise setting out from the Marina at Port Zante when a number of catamarans will be full of make-believe pirates, all dressed to kill. Lots of fun and the best dressed pirates will be rewarded with prizes! On that same evening a number of restaurants will be supporting the cause by contributing EC$10 per plate served to the appeal. “It will be a great evening to dine out, not only will you get good food and welcome, but by dining out you will be contributing to this wonderful cause.’says Chris English, President of the Liamuiga club. The Restaurant Dine-around will be supported by the following establishments: Spice Mill the new and exciting Restaurant at Cockleshell Beach, St Kitts” most romantic venue, The Rock Lobster at Frigate Bay where you can sample sumptuous food, Pride of India for an exotic Indian feasts, Stone Walls in Princes Street, now under new management that brings back grand dining to down town Basseterre, and of course the Marriott will offer their excellent and diverse choice of fine food. There will be a Collection Kettles Run around and about, so give generously when you see a Rotarian with a collection kettle. On Saturday 21st March the golf tournament will continue and in Nevis the Rotary Club is organising a sponsored Walkathon. Perhaps the highlight of the weekend will be a gala dinner held at The Spice Mill at Cockleshell Beach. Guests will be treated to welcome drinks and a sumptuous dinner with wine. They will be entertained by the talented Modern Image band. On Sunday the 22nd many of the church communities will take a second collection towards the appeal. “This will be the most comprehensive community effort to raise funds for those in need outside The Federation,’says English, “polio is still a worrying problem in two continents and it is good sometimes for us to step up and join in a concerted world effort. We know times are tough for all, but I”m sure the people of the Federation won’t disappoint.”
