The ECCB camp is keeping the lid on a shooting incident involving two of the institution’s security personnel on Tuesday.

According to unconfirmed reports, Everette Freeman was shot in his leg after his female counterpart’s gun fell and discharged while they were on duty at the R.L. Bradshaw Airport. The reports indicate that the gun’s safety clip was not on when it fell. Freeman was hospitalised and treated for his wound.

The shooting raised eyebrows after the perceived secrecy with which ECCB and police were treating the incident.

Employees at the monetary institution have refused to comment officially, indicating that they had been instructed not to discuss the matter.

The incident was dubbed an accidental shooting‚ but The Observer has it on good standing that the Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the matter.

Up until press time it was not known if the female security officer was allowed to resume her duties or was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police sources revealed that although no criminal charges are normally attached to accidental shootings, the shooter could be charged with negligence.
