By Ketricia Finch St. Kitts Reporter The beginning of the Basseterre Magistrate High Court’s May assizes is scheduled for next week Tuesday (May 8). Although the DPP has not finalized the slate, The Observer has learned of some upcoming matters. At the ending of the January-March assizes, Darnelle Govia, Kevin Huggins and Glenville Maynard were ordered to remain in custody until their trial on May 8. Calvert Flemming, Chavice Sider, Raul Benjamin, Ensley Wilkin, Trevor Stapleton, Cliffette Sutton, Richard Morris, Anthony Phillip, Steve Sherry, Leon Samuel, Shaweed Williams, Lester Tross, Rodney Steinbergen, Dwayne Bridgewater and Lenard Gumbs are some of the others whose matters were also set for the assizes. Javis Caines, Karen Brown, TiJay Isaac, Jamari Rogers, Vincent Harvey, Travice Stephens, Romeo Cannonier and Joseph Stanley’s cases are upcoming. Ivan and Denzil Edwards, Rodelle Clarke, Jamal Foreman and Delroy Tota are all on robbery charges. Stephens and Stanley were both charged for causing bodily harm. Cannonier was charged for murder, while Harvey was charged for wounding with intent. Phillip was charged for causing bodily harm and Samuel was charged for house breaking with intent. Williams was charged with housebreaking and larceny and receiving. Tross was charged for committing burglary. Steinbergen was charged for indecent assault. Persons who are on bail include Raul Benjamin, Steve Sherry, Rodney Steinbergen, Coy Jeffers, Dwayne Bridgewater, Javis Caines, Lester Tross, TiJay Isaac, Jamari Rogers, Travice Stephens and Joseph Stanley. The Observer understands from the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) office that there are 13 new matters expected to be dealt with throughout the first week of the assizes. Judge Francis Belle said at the end of the January-March assizes that although it was a relatively successful period, where 23 matters were being dealt with, May’s assizes require much more work, because some 40 matters are still pending plus the recent cases that continuously present themselves.
