The most popular female DJ in the Federation and the Caribbean, Michelle ‘Sister Sensia’ Stokes will grace the international entertainment scene on Saturday having been chosen to be the DJ at one of the biggest dances in New York City: ‘Alien Invasion – Tony Matterhorn Man from Mars’.
Sensia will be the only female performing on Saturday alongside some of the most famous dancehall names in the music business such as Tony Matterhorn, Hot Ninety-Seven, Jabba of Tempo, Richie Feelings of Stone Love and Ding Dong.
She revealed that this occasion will not be the first time she has performed in New York. She said the previous ones were small dances and she feels excited to be a part of this one since it’s one the biggest dances to be hosted in New York for the year.
Sensia told The Observer what inspired her to become a DJ.
“Since I was 12 years old I wanted to become a DJ. I just got up at first and played because my dad use to do it and then after a while, I realised that it was something I loved because I love music. My idol has always been Tony Matterhorn. Yardy used to take time out and tell me ‘Sensia bring your CD bag and come’. Whenever I go out and perform and make mistakes, I would always look to Ubal of Evolution Sounds also. I love what I’m doing. I get to travel a lot and meet people and I make money.”
Sensia said she is ready to bring out everything she has to offer come Saturday.
Lexi Brookes, promoter of the dance through VIP Connected, said she is always willing to help Sensia 100 percent, not only as an entertainer but also as a friend. She explainedwhy the dance will be hosted.
“VIP Connected has worked with Tony Matterhorn through his time while being banned by the US Government. I worked with the US Government and attorneys from 2003 until now to get him back to the US.
“Finally we won so it was a huge celebration that we were able to get Matterhorn to return to the US. Matterhorn is considered the number one selector in the US. Saturday would be his full-blown first performance since he was banned in 2003.”
Brookes said Sensia was chosen to perform at the dance for many different reasons.
“Number 1, she is just a wicked DJ. Number 2, she has always been a strong force behind strangers like myself. She has made me feel at home when I’m in St. Kitts. Number 3, there was no competition as to who to send from St. Kitts. Number 4, we’ve always brought artists into St. Kitts and we always try our best whenever we can to promote our local artists internationally as well. Sensia has a lot of fans in the US. We are happy that she is participating. She is now a friend to the New York market.”
