Mar. 23 — Dr. the Hon Timothy Harris, Senior Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources participated in a series of meetings in Paramaribo, Suriname. Dr Harris participated in the 33rd Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) (Agriculture), the inauguration of the Caribbean Agriculture Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA), Ministerial Meeting of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the 24th Meeting of the Board of Governors of CARDI. The Special COTED strategized on CARICOM’s participation in the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean slated for Panama. The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism will present the Fisheries Ministers with an overview of the situation in fisheries and aquaculture in the region. Ministers will consider the CFRM’s draft annual work plan, budget and the status of contracts of its principal officers and receive an update on a Common Fisheries Policy for the Caribbean Community among other agenda items. The meeting of CARDI’s Board of Governors will consider the financial status of CARDI, its work programme and Budget for 2010.
