The first and second teams of the Tuberose Netball Club were the recipients of a $5,000 cheque from TDC Group of Companies on behalf of SNIC Insurance.

The company came forward after a request made by the Tuberose Sports and Community Club of Craddock Road.

Keesha Jones, assistant marketing manager of TDC Home and Building, handed the cheque to Rhenese Herbert, a club member.

Jones said the TDC Group of Companies has always been a strong supporter for the advancement of sports in the Federation.

She added that since its inception the company has contributed to the development of many sporting facilities and athletes.

“Netball remains one of the few sports specifically designed for ladies and young women,” Jones said. “It continues to enhance the athletic ability, build character, encourage self esteem and team spirit while simultaneously promoting friendly rivalry.

“We are therefore very pleased to be the sponsor of SNIC Tuberose netball team and we are very happy for the opportunity to play our part in developing the game here on Nevis.”

Herbert on accepting the cheque thanked TDC on behalf of the club and assured that the team members would do play at their best.

“I believe that netball is a sport that will tie our communities together,” said Corissa Griffin, public relations officer of the club. She briefly thanked the company for its sponsorship and encouraged members of the public to come onboard and support netball..

Tressetta Prentice, manager SNIC Nevis Ltd, challenged the women to be good ambassadors of the island and encouraged them to do their best.

The Tuberose Community and Sports Club — after some time of dormancy — was revived in March 2006.

The club aims to bring the youths of the Craddock Road, Ramsbury and Low Street region together.

“We basically encourage them to engage in positive things such as netball and other sporting activities,” said Griffin.
